A traffic accident near exit 79 in the northbound lane of Interstate 59 in Tuscaloosa County has caused traffic to reach a near-standstill Friday morning. The accident occurred at 7:59 a.m. and involved two cars and one commercial vehicle that was carry scrap metal. The wreck caused the scrap metal to spill into both northbound lanes, leading state troopers to shut both lanes down.
Traffic has been backed up for miles since the accident happened. Troopers are diverting traffic onto Highway 11 at exit 76, three miles away from the wreck.
One injury has been reported, but no fatalities, according to state troopers.
