Mason the Tornado Dog up for Hero Dog award

He has already reached international stardom, and now Mason the Tornado Dog that Fox 6 first told the world about is going for official Hero Dog status.

Mason, affectionately dubbed “The Tornado Dog” has been nominated for the American Humane Association Hero Dog Award.

Presented by the American Humane Association and Cesar dog food, the contest intends to “shine a light on the thousands of specially trained dogs giving comfort to people every day.” Dogs are nominated in eight categories: Search and rescue, law enforcement or arson, service, therapy, guide, hearing, military, and Mason’s category, Emerging Hero Dogs.

The adorable terrier captured our hearts when two weeks after the April 27 tornado, Mason crawled home on two broken legs. His family thought their beloved dog was a victim of the storm, but lo and behold, he was sitting on the front porch when they returned to sift through the debris.

Mason fans can vote for him by clicking here or visiting Herodogawards.org. The winners will be announced in November on the Hallmark Channel.
