TUSCALOOSA, AL (WBRC)- Nearly 200 Special Olympians put their skills to the test in Tuscaloosa Friday.
Swimmers from 14 counties across the state participated in the sectional aquatics meet was held at the University of Alabama. This swim meet allow kids to compete in several events over a four-hour period.
Organizers say this gives swimmers a chance to show the world they work as hard as kids without disabilities.
"For these athletes to participate is a life time experience. A lot of people don't have any faith in them. They don't think they can do it. Give them an opportunity, they can do it and they'll prove it to you," Jon Barkley said.
Swimmers who competed in Tuscaloosa will also swim in the state-wide competition held in Troy this May.
