TUSCALOOSA, AL (WBRC)- Leland Shopping Center, one of Tuscaloosa's first major retail outlets, is being demolished.
Demolition started several days ago. The Tuscaloosa City Council voted to condemn the property in December. The center has fallen into disrepair over the years and damage caused by the April 27 tornado only made the situation worse.
One former shopper says it's sad to see it go.
"Well it is. I eat here at Wright's a good bit. And I've traded in just about every store in that shopping center," Troy Jones said.
The demolition should take several more days.
