First day for new UA president | News
TUSCALOOSA, AL (WBRC)- It's the first day on the job for the University of Alabama's new president.
Guy Bailey met the president of the Student Government Association and others at a reception this morning. Bailey, a UA graduate himself, comes to Tuscaloosa from Texas Tech University where he served as president for 5 years.
Dr. Bailey says, in years past, out of state students enrolled here because it was cheap, now they choose Alabama for its quality of education. He wants to continue recruiting kids from out-of-state while also increasing research at the university.
"And they come here because it's their choice, not because it's cheap. We want to continue making this an institute of choice. We want to enhance the research capacity of the university as well," said Bailey.
This week, Bailey is mapping a schedule for the next month on getting to students, faculty and staff at the University of Alabama.
