Facebook feud sparks shooting in Holt

TUSCALOOSA COUNTY, AL (WBRC)- An online feud boils over onto the streets of Tuscaloosa County. Authorities say what started out as a Facebook post ended in gunfire.

Thursday night, the 22-year-old victim was driving past Pine Crest Road in Holt. That's when he saw the guy who'd been writing about him on Facebook. It looked like he put his hands up to fight and the driver stopped to confront him.

Capt. Loyd Baker of the Tuscaloosa Metro Homicide Unit says, "He saw this individual. There were some gestures made. Our victim got out of the car and when he did he felt a sharp pain and realized he'd been shot."

The bullet went through his hip and out his backside. He hopped back in his car, drove away and called for an ambulance. We now know that the Facebook posts claimed the victim snitched to police about criminal activity in his neighborhood.

"I think there were some accusations going back and forth about information, criminal activity, getting back to the police. So there are some accusations of being a snitch and that's what caused it," Baker said.

The victim was treated and released from the hospital. The suspected shooter remains on the loose. A sign in the neighborhood indicates people here are members of a neighborhood watch program. It remains to be seen if Thursday night's shooting will make this community more or less likely to work with the police in the future.
