Suspect's charges upgraded to murder after victim dies | News

TUSCALOOSA, AL (WBRC)- A man originally charged with attempted murder has been served a murder warrant at the county jail after the victim passed away Friday morning.
Tuscaloosa police investigated a disturbance on Feb. 29 and found the victim, 64-year-old Willie Cook, unconscious at the scene. A man named Willie Griffin, 29, was still at the residence in the 2100 block of Jemison Avenue. Both men were staying at the residence, according to police. Witnesses said the men had gotten into a verbal argument which led to Griffin assaulting Cooke. Griffin was arrested Feb. 29 and charged with attempted murder.
Cooke was taken to DCH Feb. 29 for treatment and was on life support until he died around 7 a.m. Friday, March 16.
The suspect in the murder, Griffin, has been in jail since his initial arrest. His bond is set at $60,000.
