Student group spreads awareness about binge drinking

LessThanUTHink, a collective of six Alabama Universities, is heading to Gulf Shores to spread awareness about college-age binge drinking.

A recent survey of students found that 64 percent college students said they will likely consume six or more drinks in a two-hour period. According to the CDC, when a man consumes more than five or more drinks and a woman consumes four or more drinks in a two hour period.

To help spread their message of a "lifestyle of moderation," students from LTUT will host a variety of beach events and reach out to students at bars in Gulf Shores and Orange Beach.

Below is the current schedule of LTUT events starting Friday, March 10 through Tuesday, March 13.

At every event, LTUT members will distribute promotional items bearing the campaign's message to students.

Saturday, March 10

6 a.m to 2 p.m.:

• "Frisbeech" event: LTUT members will place more than 2,000 Frisbees along the beach at 6 a.m.

• Beach obstacle course: LTUT members will set up a fun obstacle course for students.

• Beach games: LTUT members will have corn hole, ladder ball and Bocce ball games for students to play and win prizes.

10 p.m. to midnight:

• Bar initiative at Tacky Jacks in Gulf Shores, Ala.

o LTUT members will go into Tacky Jacks in an effort to reach students at the point of consumption by distributing promotional items that bear the campaign's message.

Sunday, March 11

10 a.m. to 3 p.m.:

• Beach obstacle course: LTUT members will set up a fun obstacle course for students.

• Beach games: LTUT members will have corn hole, ladder ball and Bocce ball games for students to play and win prizes.

• Sand castle contest for prizes

• Baby pool kickball: LTUT members will host a kickball game with students where baby pools full of ice-cold water serve as the bases.

Monday, March 12

10 a.m. to 3 p.m.:

• Volleyball tournament

• Beach obstacle course: LTUT members will set up a fun obstacle course for students.

• Beach games: LTUT members will have corn hole, ladder ball and Bocce ball games for students to play and win prizes.

10 p.m. to midnight:

• Bar initiative at Rafters

o LTUT members will go into Tacky Jacks in an effort to reach students at the point of consumption by distributing promotional items that bear the campaign's message.

Tuesday, March 13

10 a.m. to 3 p.m.:
