Two suspects charged with robbery in January home invasion

Tuscaloosa- Tuscaloosa investigators have arrested and charged two young supects with four counts of robbery each in connection with a January home invasion.

Demetrius Juan Melton, 16, has been charged as an adult with four counts of robbery in the first degree. The second suspect, James Andre Harris, Jr., 18, was charged with the same counts. Both are being held at the Tuscaloosa County Jail, each on a $240,000 bond.

The robbery took place Jan. 9, 2012 in the 2600 block of Lanier Avenue. At approximately 7:35 p.m. police believe that Melton, Harris, and two other suspects knocked on the door of the residence. When an occupant opened the door the four suspects entered the home.

One of the suspects had a handgun. They told the residents to get on the floor, then took phones and money from them. One of the suspects fired the handgun and the four then left the residence. No one was injured during the home invasion.

Tuscaloosa police also said that charges are pending on the remaining two suspects.
