Woman wounded in drive-by shooting

A 29-year-old female was struck by a bullet in a drive-by shooting late Sunday night in Tuscaloosa.

The shooting suspect followed the victim after leaving a club around 2:15 a.m. The female victim and a car driven by some of her family members drove away from the club after hearing that the shooting suspect was about to get into an altercation, said Captain Loyd Baker with the Tuscaloosa Metro Homicide Unit. The shooting suspect knew the victim and the group of people she was with.

The suspect followed the victim and another car with her family members inside to the intersection of Alston Avenue and 22nd Street. After swerving around the victim's car, the shooting suspect got out of his vehicle and began to open fire. Both the victim's vehicle and the car owned by her family members were damaged in the gunfire. A bullet entered the back of the victim's car and struck her in the thigh. The victim was treated for her wounds and released.

Nine marijuana plants discovered during eviction

A Tuscaloosa County Sheriff's deputy discovered $18,000 worth of marijuana in a residence while evicting a 25-year-old man from his home this morning.

Around 9:30 a.m., the deputy found nine marijuana plants and half a pound of marijuana inside the residence in the 900 block of Hargrove Road, according to Sgt. Andy Norris with the Tuscaloosa County Sheriff's Office.

West Alabama Narcotics Task Force officers arrived to the scene to confiscate the marijuana and arrest the suspect, Brian Browning. Browning has been charged with trafficking marijuana. His bond has been set at $250,000.

Tuscaloosa police searching for robbery suspect

The Tuscaloosa Police Department is searching for a suspect in connection to a robbery that occurred last Thursday.

Officers received a robbery call at the Shell Food mart on 1500 MLK Jr. Blvd. just before 3:00 p.m. The cashier said the suspect walked into the store and waited in line until several people left before pulling a handgun and demanding money.  The cashier gave the man an undisclosed sum and the suspect left on foot.

Tuscaloosa Co. most wanted arrested, meth lab busted

From a Tuscaloosa County Sherriff's Office press release:

Around Midnight on October 13th Deputies and Coaling Police arrested William Larry Cox, B/M, 39 years old,  in the 11000 Block of Hook Rd. in Coaling. He was one of Tuscaloosa Counties Most Wanted for the charges of Kidnapping 2nd Degree and DV Assault 3rd Degree.

Also early Thursday Morning Deputies went to an address in the 16000 Block of Brookdale Dr. and found a Meth Lab, precursor and another Meth Lab the suspects were trying to dump. Two suspects, Eddie McCoy Riley III, W/M, 40 years old and Jennifer Braswell Burleson, W/F, 40 years old were each charged with: Unlawful Manufacturing, Unlawful Possession of Methamphetamine, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Total Bond $121,000.00. A unit from Brookwood PD and TPD as well as Narcotics assisted.

Two people busted for crack cocaine

Tuscaloosa Sheriff's Office deputies arrested two people Sunday evening for possessing crack cocaine. The deputies were tipped off to the drug activity by a resident in the 6200 block of University Blvd. East around 7 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 9.

The deputies observed two people in possession of crack cocaine. Billy Townsend, 46, and Melissa Johnson, 35, were arrested and charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. They are being detailed in the Tuscaloosa County Jail with a bond of $7,500 each.

Crime prevention event held Monday in Tuscaloosa

Three law Tuscaloosa area law enforcement agencies are teaming up tonight for an event designed to promote safer neighborhoods and crime prevention.

The Tuscaloosa County Sheriff's Office, Tuscaloosa Police Department and Northport Police Department are planning a "National Night Out" to kick off Monday at 5 p.m. in Tuscaloosa's Sokol Park. The evening will include food, activities for kids, displays, crime prevention tips and demos of police equipment including a bomb robot, says SCSO Sgt. Andy Norris.

The event will last until 7 p.m.

Tuscaloosa Co. Conservator Fails to Report Felony, Gets Jail

U.S. District Judge Abdul K. Kallon sentenced the former Tuscaloosa County Probate Court Conservator, Zondra T. Hutto, to three months in prison yesterday for failing to report a felony she knew had been committed. Hutto, 61, of Tuscaloosa was ordered to pay $19, 358 in restitution to the estate of a 79-year-old dementia patient under her care. Hutto, who is a lawyer, pleaded guilty June 30 and will report to prison Jan. 2, 2012.

A conservator is an officer of the court responsible for the welfare and property of individuals deemed incompetent by the county. The Circuit Court of Tuscaloosa County granted Hutto permanent guardianship and conservatorship for the elderly woman in December 2007.
