Jared “The Subway Guy” Fogle and former Alabama Football player Tyrone Prothro are making sandwiches Wednesday and bringing a $10,000 donation to the West Alabama Food Bank at one of the only remaining restaurants on 15th Street in Tuscaloosa.

As part of Subway’s “Pullin’ for a Cause” campaign, Subway encouraged people to text FOOD to 27722 to give $10 to the WAFB. The restaurant pledged to match each donation, and presented a hefty donation Wednesday in Tuscaloosa.

“We’ve teamed up with the West Alabama Food Bank to remind folks that even though it’s no longer front page news, communities affected by the violent spring weather still need our support on the long road to recovery,” Tony Pace, Chief Marketing Officer of the SUBWAY Franchisee Advertising Fund, said in a release.

At the check presentation, Fogle and Prothro prepared and served Subway sandwiches, signed autographs and posed for pictures with fans.

"The people of Alabama who have suffered as a result of these natural disasters are thankful for corporate citizens like the Subway chain," Henry Lipsey, Executive Director of the WAFB said.

The Northport-based WAFB distributes more than 2 million pounds of food each year. The recent tornadoes have strained its budget, making this donation all the more appreciated.
