BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC)- Got an opinion on who makes the best barbecue in Bama? You can vote for your favorite barbecue joint in the state out of 32 restaurants listed in the first-ever Alabama Barbecue Bracket.

The competition is sponsored by Alabama Tourism and follows a March-Madness style bracket that narrows down the options from four regionally-based divisions.

The match-ups are based on a social media poll that Alabama Tourism conducted last year that garnered more than 180 responses. The top eight submissions for each region, North, South, Central and Gulf Coast, ended up in the Alabama BBQ Bracket.

Some of the Central Alabama contestants include Birmingham's Full Moon, Golden Rule, and Moe's Original restaurants, Tuscaloosa's Jim 'N Nick's and Dreamland, Northport's Archibalds and Saw's BBQ in Homewood.

Report raises concerns about Ala. poultry plant conditions

Poultry is big business in Alabama. The industry accounts for more than $2 million and more than 80,000 jobs.

A new report by the Alabama Appleseed Center for Law and Justice and the Southern Poverty Law Center employees at some of the 25 processing plants across the state are overworked, injured and intimidated.

Tom Fritzsche SPLC staff attorney spoke with Fox6 News reporter Ronda Robinson about the report.

"It's based on interviews with over 300 current and former poultry workers all over the state of Alabama talking about working conditions, health and safety issues, safety equipment, sexual harrassment and a number of other things," Fritzsche said.

Seventy-nine percent of the respondents said they "are not allowed to take bathroom breaks when needed." Some workers chose to urinate on themselves rather than ask to leave the line.

Small changes can help the fuel in your tank last longer

Small changes can help the fuel in your tank last longer

BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC)- Monday, AAA said that for 32 straight days, gas prices have gone up in the U.S. and their daily fuel gauge report shows the average price for regular gas in Alabama is now $3.57.

That's an increase of 35 cents in the last month. Experts say the rise in prices is due to three things: rising crude oil prices, refinery closures and production cuts.

With every dollar counting so much, there are some easy wasy to make the gas last. Franklin Automotive has some simple suggestions to help consumers.

1. Check your tires.

"If your tires aren't properly inflated or if the alignment is not done properly, both of those things can create drag. And if there's drag it's going to make your motor work hard to push the car," Booth Armstrong said.

2. Keep up with preventative maintenance, like oil and filter changes.
