TUSCALOOSA, AL (WBRC)- Tinsel Trail, a display of more than 100 decorated Christmas trees, opens Monday evening along the Tuscaloosa Riverwalk.
Tinsel Trail is a new fundraiser organized by Tuscaloosa's One Place, which is a family resource center. Sponsors pay to decorate the trees and there is no fee for people to come and enjoy the display.
"We wanted to provide a fundraising event that was available to the whole family, since we are a family resource center," Jean Rykaczewski, with Tuscaloosa's One Place, said. "We wanted to be accessible to everyone, so that's why we picked the Riverwalk. We have a beautiful walk along the river, so we thought we'd utilize that."
Organizers also say they hope to share crowds with Holidays on the River, Tuscaloosa's ice rink and ice slide across from the Riverwalk. Some trees along the Tinsel Trail are decorated in themes; many are just decorated as ornate holiday displays.
